  • Why did my vacuum cleaner stop working?

A: If you don’t regularly clean and maintain your vacuum, you probably will run into a few issues eventually. Your vacuum not working or suddenly turning off can be frustrating but there are a few ways to troubleshoot the problem. Checking for blockages and ensuring the power cord is actually plugged are two easy-to-fix problems. If that isn’t your problem, then maybe it’s time to visit us to have a professional assess what’s wrong with your vacuum cleaner.

  • How do I fix a vacuum cleaner that won’t turn on?

If you have an older vacuum cleaner, there’s always a chance your vacuum will suddenly stop working one day. Sometimes it means you need a new vacuum, but there are a few other reasons it might not power on. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot your vacuum cleaner power issues:

Check The Power – Sometimes the simplest solution is the last one you would think to check. If your vacuum has cut out, check the power cord and the outlet it’s plugged into to make sure it’s getting power.

Check For Blockages – Blockages and lack of cleaning is one of the most common problems you’ll have with your vacuum. Blockages are likely to trigger the thermal cut-out on your vacuum cleaner. Clean your hoses and filters regularly to avoid these obstructions and to prevent damage to your vacuum.

Burned Out Motor – Unfortunately motors sometimes burn out on a vacuum cleaner but that doesn’t mean you need a new vacuum. If your vacuum smells like it’s burning and won’t power on, there’s a chance this is your problem.

If for some reason your motor is burned out, bring it in to AAA Sew Vac East and we’ll give you an estimate on how much a new motor will cost or you can purchase a new vacuum cleaner if your current vacuum is old and worn out.

  • How do you service a vacuum cleaner?

A: Servicing your vacuum cleaner can extend the lifespan of your vacuum many years. Replacing your bag regularly, cleaning the hoses & filters and cleaning the brush roll are a few of the best ways to keep your vacuum cleaner running. If for whatever reason your vacuum stops working, you can always bring it to our vacuum repair shop in Denver for a quote.

  • How do you prevent a clogged vacuum?

A: The easiest way to prevent clogging your vacuum is to always empty your vacuum bag before using it and to avoid vacuuming large objects. You should also avoid vacuuming wet surfaces unless it is specifically designed for that.

  • What causes a vacuum to lose suction?

A: Vacuums lose suction for a number of reasons but the most common reasons are problems with the vacuum hose, clogged roller or broken vacuum belt. If you’re unable to fix them yourself, we recommend bringing your vacuum in

  • How do you increase vacuum suction?

A: The quickest way to increase vacuum suction is replacing and emptying the dust collection bag frequently or after every use. When the bag is full, the vacuum has a harder time passing air through which reduces the amount of suction. If that doesn’t solve your problem, feel free to bring your vacuum cleaner in and we can help you diagnose the problem.

  • Is it worth it to repair a vacuum cleaner?

A: It really depends on the age of the vacuum and how much it will cost to fix. If the vacuum is more than 5 years old and will cost more than half the value of the vacuum, you might be better off buying a new one. If the cost of the repair is relatively inexpensive, then you probably should try to repair it first.

  • How many years should a vacuum cleaner last?

A: 8 years is the estimated median life span of a vacuum cleaner according to consumer reports, but it ultimately depends on the brand and how well it was maintained. If your vacuum cleaner dies on you in just a year or two, make sure the problem isn’t something that can easily be fixed or repaired. Stop by our store to have your vacuum cleaner looked at before tossing it and buying a new one. There’s a good chance we can repair it for less than the cost of a new vacuum.

  • How powerful should a vacuum cleaner be?

A: 325 – 500 watts is sufficient for the average house or apartment where all you’re doing is vacuuming carpet and furniture.

  • How often should you replace a vacuum cleaner?

A: Vacuum cleaners don’t need to be replaced until they  can no longer be repaired for less than half the cost of a new vacuum. Many times a broken vacuum doesn’t need to be replaced and an inexpensive repair will have it up and running like new. Bring your broken vacuum cleaner into our store to have it evaluated for possible repairs.
